Gov. Stein declared a state of emergency as winter weather approaches North Carolina, which will likely include mixes of freezing rain, sleet, and snow.

Most North Carolina school districts and community colleges have announced delays, closures, or remote learning days. See below for updates as of Thursday morning.

School districts

• Alamance-Burlington School System schools and facilities will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a two-hour delay on Friday.
• Alexander County Schools are holding remote learning days on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Alleghany County Schools are holding a remote learning day on Thursday. There will be a two-hour delay on Friday.
• Anson County Schools are holding a remote learning day on Thursday. Regular schedule resumes Friday.
• Ashe County Schools will hold a remote learning day on Thursday. There will be a two-hour delay on Friday with limited bus routes.
• Asheboro City Schools are holding a remote learning day on Wednesday and Thursday. Regular schedule resumes Friday.
• Asheville City Schools are cancelling after-school activities on Wednesday. They will operate normally on Thursday.
• Avery County Schools are holding remote learning days on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
• Beaufort County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
• Bertie County Schools are holding a remote learning day Wednesday and will be closed Thursday and Friday.
• Bladen County Schools will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a two-hour delay on Friday.
• Brunswick County Schools are holding a remote learning day on Thursday.
• Buncombe County Schools will hold a remote learning day on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Burke County Schools will be closed on Wednesday and operate on a two-hour delay for students and staff on Thursday. Regular schedule resumes Friday.
• Cabarrus County Schools are holding a remote learning day on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Caldwell County Schools are closed on Thursday. Regular schedule resumes Friday.
• Camden County Schools are holding a remote learning day on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
• Carteret County Public Schools will operate normally on Wednesday, but after-school activities on Wednesday will be cancelled. There will be a remote learning day on Thursday.
• Caswell County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Thursday. There will be a two-hour delay on Friday.

• Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools are holding a remote learning day on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

• Chatham County Schools are holding a remote learning day on Wednesday. After-school activities will be cancelled. They will also have a remote learning day on Thursday. There will be a two-hour delay on Friday.
• Cherokee County Schools are operating normally on Wednesday. They will operate on a two-hour delay on Thursday and Friday.
• Clay County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday and Thursday.

• Northampton County Schools are holding a remote learning day on Wednesday. No school for students on Thursday. Closed on Friday.
• Onslow County Schools are holding remote learning days on Wednesday and Thursday. Extracurriculars are cancelled on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Orange County Schools are holding a remote learning day on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
• Pamlico County Schools are holding a remote learning day on Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a two-hour delay on Friday.

• Roanoke Rapids Graded School District has varying early dismissals/closures on Wednesday. They are also closed on Thursday and Friday.
• Rockingham County Schools are holding a remote learning day on Wednesday. Closed Thursday; three-hour delay on Friday.
• Rowan-Salisbury Schools are holding a remote learning day on Wednesday and Thursday.

• Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. They will operate normally on Thursday.
• Beaufort County Community College is closed on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Bladen Community College will have a delayed start on Thursday and will open at 12:00 p.m.
• Blue Ridge Community College campuses will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Brunswick Community College will have a delayed start on Thursday and will open at 2:00 p.m.
• Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute‘s two campuses are closed on Wednesday for day/night classes. The Watauga Campus of CCC&TI will open at 12 p.m. on Thursday.
• Cape Fear Community College will operate under a two-hour delay on Thursday. There will be remote instruction from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. when in-person instruction begins.
• Carteret Community College is operating normally.
• Catawba Valley Community College is closed on Wednesday. Most classes will continue remotely. They will operate on a two hour delay on Thursday. Classes before 10 a.m. will be remote.
• Central Carolina Community College is closed on Thursday. Online instruction will continue as scheduled.
• Central Piedmont Community College is closed on Wednesday. Online instruction will continue as scheduled. There will be a two-hour delay on Thursday.
• Cleveland Community College is cancelling classes for Wednesday evening. There will be a two-hour delay on Thursday.
• Coastal Carolina Community College will be closed on Thursday.
• College of The Albemarle is closed on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Craven Community College is closed on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Davidson-Davie Community College campuses will operate remotely on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Durham Technical Community College is operating on Yellow Status on Wednesday and Thursday; campuses are closed but some instruction may continue online.
• Edgecombe Community College is closed on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Fayetteville Technical Community College is closed on Wednesday and Thursday. All classes will transition to remote learning.
• Forsyth Technical Community College college services will be virtual and physical locations will be closed on Wednesday. On Thursday, they will open at 10 a.m.
• Gaston College campuses will be closed and will operate on a remote learning schedule on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Guilford Technical Community College is closed on Wednesday. All classes are cancelled. On Thursday, campuses will open at 12 p.m.

• Southeastern Community College will open at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
• Southwestern Community College is closed on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Stanly Community College will be operating remotely on Thursday.
