As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, The Hunt Institute is hosting numerous webinars each month to explore different topics across the birth through postsecondary continuum. Below, find full recordings of some of our webinars from February and March, along with links to learn more about each of them.
Early Efforts | Early Childhood Philanthropy Amid COVID-19
In February, our early childhood philanthropy webinar brought together Ellen Roche, Meka Sales, and Monica Hobbs Vinluan. During the event, panelists discussed the work their organizations are undertaking to alleviate some of the pressure created by the pandemic. The audience learned how grantmaking is supporting children and families during this unusual and stressful time. Read more about this webinar here.
Postsecondary Pathways | Higher Education and Data Equity
Our February Postsecondary Pathways webinar included insights on higher education data and equity from Dr. Christopher Nellum, Dr. Carlos Santiago, and Mamie Voight. As state leaders think about how to reimagine systems of higher education in ways that produce more equitable outcomes for students, especially in consideration of disruptions caused by the pandemic, they need robust higher education data systems to determine specific areas of need and measure interim progress toward equity goals. In this conversation, leading state policymakers and advocates discussed the importance of taking a data-driven approach to equity work as well as strategies that can be used to make higher education data more accessible to decision makers. Governing Principals | Equity-Centered Assessment Policy in 2021
Experts estimate that nearly three million students have not experienced any education since March 2020. Following the cancellation of state assessments and the waiver of state and federal accountability systems due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers, parents, and policymakers alike have engaged in discussions around the implications for students and schools in the short and long term, especially for students who are more likely to be disadvantaged by current testing systems. For this edition of Governing Principals, The Hunt Institute heard from current and former state leaders sharing their thoughts on the impact of COVID-19 on standardized testing.
