Open doors: A bilingual preschool

Susan Suarez Webster, assistant pastor for community outreach at Central United Methodist Church in Charlotte, realized about four years ago just how international her community was.

One of the things that I love the most about working in this church and this community is that I don’t ever have to get on a plane and everyday I meet people from different parts of the world.”

The congregation had already been working with children through other programs, but an opportunity emerged for the church to take a more active role in education. In September, the church will open the Children of the World Learning Center, a private preschool with a sliding scale fee for all children in the community.

Take a look inside their story, and stay tuned all week for profiles on people, churches, and programs that lie at the intersection of faith and education.
