Tammi Sutton, the executive director of KIPP Eastern North Carolina, thinks changing education will change the poverty in our communities.
In fall 2015, KIPP Durham will open in the old Holloway Street school. KIPP stands for Knowledge Is Power Program. At KIPP Gaston, 100 percent of the seniors for seven years in a row have been accepted to a four year college.
In this video, you can see Tammi and her team going door-to-door in Durham on a Saturday visiting 400 apartments in one day recruiting rising 5th grade students. They go to underserved communities, looking for students who will be the first in their family to go to college.
