Elisabeth (Liz) Almekinder is a contributing reporter to Carolina Public Press. The daughter of a country doctor often paid with pies and goats, Liz is a freelance writer who got her start at a small Southern newspaper in Concord, North Carolina. She later returned to school for nursing and certified diabetes education. Liz began writing for diabetes and health websites, when the draw of national politics pulled her back to journalism, inspiring her to write about women in politics, health care and the environment, as well as state and local politics. She resides in Pender County near the intracoastal waterway with her husband, Rolf. She has two children, Zach, age 18, and Casey, age 21, both in college.
